Compost + ingredients
1 unit = 1 small (4.5gal or 14L) brew = 0.5 acres when making a compost tea with our 4.5gal brew kit
Compost + ingredients includes 1L of guaranteed biologically complete compost (checked under microscope) and a custom ingredient recipe to cater to your plants needs. Ingredients are high quality, organic certified microbial foods that are measured out, blended, and packaged separately. 1 brew is ~120mL of blended ingredients.
We have three different compost tea recipes to choose from, each designed with the plant successional stage in mind. Early successional plants include grasses, annuals and brassicas. Mid-successional plants range from vegetable gardens to productive pastures and perennial plants. Late Successional plants are trees.
Please email us to choose your recipe:
- Early: Bacterial Compost (commercial blend, organic certified)
- Mid: Rewild Compost (home-made, hand-turned thermal aerobic, biologically complete)
- Late: Johnson-Su Compost (home-made, higher F:B ratio, mycorrhizal inoculant included)
Save on shipping and purchase 3-4 kit refills all at once. *Maintain your compost by storing it in a cool, dark space and spritzing with water ~once/week to maintain ~40% moisture. Option to "wake up" compost by sprinkling a few tablespoons of organic oat meal on top 2 days before making a tea.
Our composts are selected using the principles of Dr. Elaine Ingham's requirements for BioComplete(TM) Compost. While the term "BioComplete" is trademarked and a licence is required for its use, we use the term "biologically complete compost" to destinguish these requirements:
1. The complete soil food web is present in 1-2 drops of sample at a 1:10 dilution with water. (Bacteria, fungi, protists and beneficial nematodes).
2. Compost moisture is ~40% at time of shipping to maintain activity of microbes, so they are ready to reproduce in the compost tea and go to work in your soil
3. Compost feedstock is "clean" - great care is taken to remove plastics and avoid chemical residues.
4. Compost is "safe", containing no significant degree of pests or pathogens. This is done by either using thermal aerobic techniques of vermicomposting techniques, both of which provide an environment for aerobic microbes and deter anaerobic microbes.
5. Microscope checks, microbial reports, and occasional chemistry and DNA analysis are run on each compost blend. Results available periodically, upon request.
