Join us on a microscopy safari, made for all skill levels. I will teach you how to perform a microscopy "quick check" to know if your compost/bioamendment is diverse, active and safe. Also useful for understanding where your soil microbiome sits and what needs to be done to grow the plants you want.

About the event

Good day microbe lovers! Are you curious what microbes are in your soil? compost? compost tea/extract? Let's find out! Join seasoned microscopist and certified Soil Food Web Lab. Tech. Colleen Dempster for a fun and interactive morning in the "brew barn" at Rewild Uxbridge (Rewild Soils).

After this workshop, we should be calibrated to each other enough that we can speak the same languange when we say "biologically complete". This workshop is designed for anyone, from new to highly experienced.

I will teach you how to care for/carry your microscope, how to set it up, how to load a sample, and how to view and interpret it. I have developed a "quick check" protocol that I will be sharing with all participants, that will allow you to look at a sample and know within ~20minutes:

  • if it is biologically diverse, containing all of the major soil food web organism groups
